Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions? We have the answers to your most common doubts. If you don’t find clarification to your question, feel free to contact us.
What are Psychedelics?
Psychedelics, also known as hallucinogens, are a class of psychoactive substances that produce significant changes in perception, mood, and cognitive processes. They often lead to experiences involving altered reality, visual and auditory hallucinations, and profound shifts in consciousness. These effects are primarily due to the way psychedelics interact with serotonin receptors in the brain.
Psychedelics have a long history of use in religious and spiritual rituals. They are also gaining more and more attention for their therapeutic benefits, particularly in the treatment of mental health disorders like depression, PTSD, and anxiety.
Can Psychedelics cause a mental breakdown?
No one can predict how a person will react to Psychedelics. However, they generally do not cause a ‘mental breakdown’ in the traditional sense, especially in individuals without pre-existing conditions like psychosis. There are some important factors to take into consideration before having a trip. Which is the reason why Preparation is key! Well preparing, getting as much information as possible, getting your substances tested, and using the Drug, Set & Setting approach will reduce harm.
Are Psychedelics addictive?
Some people have a tendency to addictions, and some do not. Also, Psychedelics work differently with each of us. However, most common Psychedelics, such as LSD, psilocybin, and DMT, are generally not considered to be addictive. These substances typically do not cause the compulsive drug-seeking behaviour associated with addictive substances like opioids, alcohol, or nicotine.
Another thing to distinguish here: the physical vs the psychological addition. Psychedelics do not trigger physical addiction, which means that users do not experience physical withdrawal symptoms when they stop using the substance.
What is Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy?
Psychedelic-assisted therapy is a therapeutic approach that combines the use of psychedelic substances with psychotherapy. It is a convergence of traditional psychotherapeutic techniques, with the novel effects of psychedelics, offering a new avenue for treatment in mental health. It’s a rapidly evolving field, with ongoing research and clinical trials aiming to better understand its efficacy and refine its application.
What is Psychedelic Integration?
Psychedelic integration is the important aftercare process of incorporating insights and experiences from psychedelic journeys into one’s daily life, fostering personal growth and emotional well-being. It is crucial as it helps individuals make sense of profound experiences, navigate challenges, and harness the transformative potential of psychedelics for lasting positive change.
Do I need to have experience with Psychedelic before integrating?
No. Psychedelic experiences can be triggered by substances or by non-substance methods, such as breathwork or meditation. Our space is inclusive to working with all expanded states of consciousness. Coaches can be filtered by experience with various methodologies.
Which Psychedelics are used in Therapy?
Psychedelics are increasingly being explored for their therapeutic potential in treating a range of mental health conditions. The most commonly used psychedelics in therapy include psilocybin mushrooms, MDMA, LSD, Ketamine, Ayahuasca, Ibogaine… The list keeps on growing thanks to scientific progress and studies, proving that psychedelics, when used consciously and carefully, are helping with many mental health challenges.
Is Preparation required for Integration?
The following timeline is often proposed for psychedelic experiences: Preparation –> Experience –> Integration. However, we think of integration as a process that spans across all of these phases, and all of your experiences (both psychedelic and not!). You can begin your integration process at any moment and it will likely follow you throughout life.
